Pumpkin and Spice and Everything Nice
I remember while growing up in Wisconsin and on cool autumn days drinking hot chocolate. It was heaven on earth! You’d feel the cooler weather and warm your soul up with some hot chocolate. In those days the hot chocolate was there to warm & entertain you.
Now that I have grown up a bit, I look fondly on warming my soul with hot chocolate. I just prefer to enjoy a sugar-free version now. Whenever I get the craving for hot chocolate, I whip up a drink that nourishes while energizing and grounding at the same time. With the cooler weather rolling in, I figured I’d add a little bit of pumpkin spice to the hot chocolate and reminisce over the changing of the seasons.
Bringing In the Autumn Magic
To make this pumpkin spiced hot chocolate, I used spices from Mountain Rose Herbs. This will ensure the integrity of my spices and make a delicious and invigorating drink. When creating this drink, I recommend buying the bulk of the spices and mixing them together in a larger quantity so you have them on hand through out the season.

If making your own pumpkin spice mix
- 1/4 tsp ground ginger
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 pinch ground nutmeg
- 1 pinch ground allspice
- 1 pinch ground clove
- 1 pinch ground cardamom
- 1/8 tsp freshly ground black pepper
If you don’t want to make your own pumpkin spice:
The rest of the must-have ingredients!
- 1 can of coconut milk
- 3 Tablespoons of organic pumpkin puree
- 2 Tablespoons of cacao powder
- 1/2 tsp vanilla bean powder
- 1/4 teaspoon of stevia powder
- OR 1-2 tablespoons of maple syrup
- Coconut Whipped Cream (optional)
- Shaved Chocolate Bar
- Warm milk on the stovetop.
- Add in all of your spices, pumpkin puree, and stevia.
- Whisk until well combined.
- Add in any more spices according to your taste buds.
- Feel free to add or subtract any of the spices or flavors according to your taste buds.
