Autumn gives me all of the creative feels. I get super excited for the holidays, but especially Halloween. I love that there is dedicated time and prayers for those that have passed. It gives me great peace feeling connected to my ancestors and listening to their messages.

This is a time to let go of all the ancestral patterns that no longer serve us. It can be a tricky and dark time in that respect, to really look at our shadows and comb out what isn’t serving us. What are you willing to let go of?

I made this warm adaptogenic drink as a time to reflect on what can I let go of. Letting go can be a time of shedding emotional weight to welcome in the new. My family history and injuries have come up to show me all the things that still need to be healed, and this restorative drink helps.

What Is Moon Milk?

A warming plant-based milk, infused with a variety of healing and often adaptogenic herbs. The herbs used can be grounding, calming, aid in digestion, or customized for a person’s specific needs. Moon milk is a great way to listen to your body’s needs, receive beneficial herbs, and create an enjoyable and relaxing drink.

What Are the Benefits?

Moon milk is a drink that can to calm your nerves and regulates your nervous system which helps with restful sleep. They are an accessible, simple, delicious drink that delivers your daily herbs and adaptogens in a single serving.

Good for you, with nourishing ingredients it brings a grounding and calm energy to you when you need it. Paired with a ritual, it provides space for you to reconnect with yourself, and let go of your struggles.

When Should I Drink It?

This super calming drink is best to sip right before bedtime to help calm you and prepare for a good night’s sleep. If you are feeling stressed and restless, you can drink it at any time of the day when you need help relaxing.

I find that it’s especially helpful on a full moon, a new moon, or when I just need to call back my own energy.

Ingredients

Coconut milk is my favorite non-dairy milk to use in this recipe, it has an ultra-creamy texture and is loaded with nutrients along with healthy fats. Almond milk works just as well if preferred.

Pumpkin pie spice adds a warming pumpkin fall flavor to this delicious relaxing recipe. Makes for a super autumn-like feel to this drink, with an aroma that is calming all on its own! I like that this one is unsweetened too, it’s only the flavor you want without extra fluff.

Reishi mushroom powder is an adaptogenic ingredient that helps balance the body and mind, as well as supports immunity. Reishi is also known for helping sleep.

Stevia is a plant-based sweetener that is wonderful for avoiding sugar. It tastes sweeter than sugar, so I suggest starting with just a tiny bit and adding more to desired sweetness. Maple syrup is a good substitute for those who prefer it.

How to Make Pumpkin Pie Spiced Moon Milk

  1. Warm up your dairy-free milk of choice in a pan on the stove on low-medium heat.
  2. Once it’s warm but not boiling, whisk in the pumpkin pie spice and reishi powder.
  3. Add stevia or maple syrup to taste, and pour it into your favorite mug for drinking.
  4. Breathe, relax, and enjoy!

Warm Harvest Drink Ritual

I like to incorporate a wind-down ritual when I drink moon milk at bedtime. To develop your own evening wind-down ritual, do something that speaks to you, grounds you, and prepares you for rest.

My personal ritual is to pull a couple of tarot cards, burn a candle, and light some incense. I write in my journal, play some calming music, and sometimes soak in the bath while I sip my drink and let go of the day. Creating this space helps me to release, ground, and get a good night’s rest.
