Congee Recipe Ingredients
Chicken bone or vegetable broth: Bone broth is very mineral-dense and full of beneficial herbs, nutrients, vitamins, and minerals. Vegetarians and vegans can feel free to use vegetable broth, as it can be just as nourishing.
Jasmine rice: With its fragrance alone lending a calming feeling, jasmine rice is perfect for this congee recipe as it’s fluffy and not too sticky.
Sweet rice: This adds just a perfect amount of sweet taste to the combination for a rice porridge recipe!
Butternut squash: Butternut squash is high in beta-carotene, which is converted into Vitamin A in the body. Vitamin A is essential for reproductive health in both men and women.

Make Congee for Fertility
- Soak the rice overnight to speed up the cooking time. Alternatively, rinse the rice in water until the water turns clear to clean the rice.
- Peel and cube the butternut squash and roast in the oven at 425 degrees Fahrenheit for 40 minutes until fully cooked. Once finished, set aside until later.
- In a large pot, pour in the broth. Add grated ginger to the pot.
- Add the jasmine rice and sweet rice to the pot, bring to a boil over high heat, and reduce heat to low. Stir well.
- Cover the pot and simmer for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the rice has broken down and the mixture has thickened. Add more water or broth if the mixture gets too thick.
- While the congee mixture is cooking, mix together the miso paste and tamari into a small bowl to make the miso paste. Cook the mushrooms and any other additions you would like, such as hard-boiled eggs.
- Once finished, spoon the congee into a clean bowl.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve hot with your choice of toppings.

- 4 cups of chicken bone broth, vegetable broth
- 2 cups of jasmine rice
- 1 cup of sweet rice
- 1 cup of butternut squash, peeled and cubed
- 2-3 tablespoons of miso paste
- 1-2 tablespoons of tamari or coconut aminos
- 4-5 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon of grated ginger
- Salt and pepper, to taste
