A Sustainable Shampoo Bar Review | Spring & Vine

This is post is sponsored by Spring and Vine. All opinions are my own and thank you for supporting brands who support the blog.
Today I am so excited to be sharing with you a review of a sustainable shampoo bar. I worked on this review in partnership with Spring & Vine but the review is my own. If you know me well, you know that I adore clean, sustainable, products. So, when Spring & Vine asked if I would review their new clean and sustainable shampoo bars, I jumped at the opportunity.
As much as I care about clean, sustainable products, I have a hard time speaking more about zero waste and sustainable living. I’m 100% percent for plastic reduction, non-toxic, sustainable products, but to be honest living a full plastic, free and non-toxic lifestyle, can be a life full of rules that are not always easy to follow. There is also the problem of that lifestyle may not be affordable or accessible to live.
In most cases, a sustainable lifestyle is a huge privilege, leaving only those folks who can afford it or find the products the ones who reap the benefits. I believe if there were more products, education, and affordable options, we could solve a lot of the plastic pollution problems our planet faces. Spring & Vine has the mission of reducing plastic, offering sustainable, clean, accessible products at a cost that is affordable to everyone. Therefore, I am honored to partner with Spring and Vine, whose clean shampoo bars can now be found at Target at an affordable price of $9.99.

The Review
For this review, I had the opportunity to try the four variations of the shampoo bars offered by Spring & Vine. Right away I was intrigued, knowing that with the four variations, there was something for everyone. I was excited to give them a try. Don’t worry, I’ve written more about the four bars and their ingredients in the next section.
Before I even got to try the bars on my hair, I was in love with the smell. Right away when I opened the box, I absolutely adored how each one of the bars smells. All of the shampoo bars are naturally scented with essential oils and feature a few herbal friends. Some of the herbs that contribute to the wonderfully natural scent are rosemary, tea tree, and lavender. It was time to give the shampoo bar a try!
What stood out most to me, right away was how well the shampoo bar lathered. I’ve tried a few other brands and found it took a really long time for me to lather the bars enough to wash my hair quickly. For more information, see the section below for my tips on how to use a shampoo bar. It can be especially difficult for those with curly, and easily tangled hair, but I provided some tips!
Throughout the process of washing my hair, the shampoo from the bar stayed lathered. I was able to get a deep clean and my hair felt amazing afterward. There was no moisture stripping, and I felt just like I used a bottle of liquid shampoo. However, I felt better knowing the ingredients were all-natural and I wasn’t hurting the planet. All Spring & Vine bars are free of sulfates, parabens, silicones, dyes, phthalates, mineral oils, and synthetic fragrances. They are also vegan and cruelty-free!
The only change that I would request is that the company get rid of plastic altogether. They do a good job of ridding the packaging of 95% of the plastic, but inside the cardboard box, the shampoo bar comes wrapped in plastic. This is there for quality control to protect the bar and keep it fresh. Even with this minor detail, when you use a shampoo bar from Spring & Vine you use 95% less plastic and 90% less water than your standard 12.6 oz. bottle of shampoo while giving the same number of uses.
Overall, I was extremely impressed with the quality of the shampoo bar. My hair felt amazing, the bar lathered incredibly, and I felt great knowing I was minimizing my carbon footprint and limiting plastic production. On top of all that, I am extremely careful about the chemicals that make up my soap and skincare products. With Spring & Vine’s sustainable shampoo bars, I don’t have to worry, they are all-natural!
What Shampoo Bar Variations Can I Choose From?

With these options, there is enough variety that everyone can find something they like.
How To Successfully Use A Shampoo Bar
If you’ve never used a shampoo bar before, don’t worry! Shampoo bars are really easy to use and good for the planet. These tricks are helpful for any type of hair, especially for my fellow curly hair, long hair, and easily tangled hair friends.
I’ll be honest, when I first tried to use a shampoo bar, I put the bar straight into my hair under the water and started to scrub. This left my hair SO tangled and in knots when I got out of the bath. Don’t worry, this won’t happen to you. All you have to do is take the shampoo bar out of the box and follow the steps below.
1. First, lather the shampoo bar with your hands, underwater. Not directly on your scalp like I did my first time!
2. Next, wet your hair and lather the soapy goodness into your hair and scalp. Use the shampoo bar just like you would a regular shampoo.
3. Rinse well. Your hair will feel incredible!
If you are someone who has short hair, you might be able to put the shampoo straight into your hair without any issues. However, I’d recommend the method above.
