My Daily Microbiome Skincare Routine

Originally published on April, 15th 2020. Last updated on April, 16th 2020

While being in quarantine recently, a lot of my daily routines have changed. I’ve had to spend a lot more time at home doing online workouts, local walks outside, etc. However, I’ve been able to spend a lot more time creating magical recipes and of course, keeping & reinventing my skincare routine.

Recently, I’ve been introduced to a company called For The Biome. For The Biome has the most magical line of skincare products that completely free of chemical preservatives and fillers. Their products are also focused around preserving your skin’s microbiome which is absolutely amazing!

Their products are not just a mixture of well-sourced ingredients and adaptogens. They are specifically designed by a Master Herbalist to support your skin, it’s microbiome, and strengthen against unwanted pollutants.

What is a Microbiome?

Before we get too far into my skin care routine, let’s cover the basics of a microbiome. A lot of my recipes are gut-friendly and filled with prebiotics or probiotics which are good for your gut’s biome. Like your gut, your face is a universe for tons of friendly bacteria that help protect and hydrate your skin. These friendly bacteria helpers need a hand sometimes and that’s what For The Biome’s skincare line help with. Their products support these friendly bacteria and enhances their functionality.

Getting Started with a Microbiome Skincare Routine

I have to say, I’m all for organic and all natural skincare products. However, until I got my hands on some of For The Biome’s products, I did know the concept that our skin has a microbome but I didn’t know that a microbiome friendly skincare product existed! Luckily I found them, & I tried a few of their products to test out, and I have to say, I’m absolutely amazed! Incorporating their products into my daily routine has really left my skin feeling radiant and hydrated.

To get started, I got the Sentient Starter Set which allowed me to incorporate the following products:

Empower Powder 2-in-1

The Empower Powder 2-in-1 is a waterless cleanser and mask duo. The ingredients in this powder are absolutely amazing. It’s made with 10 botanicals, 6 probiotic strains, reishi mushroom, and even ashwagandha! Oh, and it also has aloe vera which increases skin hydration by 100% within one hour of application. All of these amazing ingredients are Certified Organic, and cruelty-free. I absolutely love this powder as it fits so naturally into my skincare routine and has a variety of benefits for my skin’s health.

Restore Essence Spray

Using the Restore Essence Spray, I am able to fight the pollution that is present in the air. The Restore Essence Spray is made from Manuka honey which is super supportive of my skin’s micobiome and leaves my skin visibly clearer.

Shield Face Serum

Shield Face Serum essentially locks in the benefits of all the other microbiome skin care products. The serum is made with organic astaxanthin which helps your skin uptake vitamin C. It’s also Certified Organic, Vegan and Cruelty-Free. I absolutely love this serum! It makes my skin feel radiant and hydrated.

My Skincare Routine

So one of the first things to developing a healthy skin care routine is to develop an order that you can repeat each day. They say it takes 3 weeks to form a habit and the best way to form a habit is to make it easy and repeatable. With my routine, I try to follow the same order each day, especially since I do it in the morning.

The first step of my skincare routine is applying the Empower Powder 2-in-1. This powder deeply cleanses my face and provides healthy, microbiome friendly, nutrients to my skin. It also distributes the hydrating aloe vera.

After applying the powder, I then gently spritz my face with the Restore Essence Spray. The Restore Essence Spray then protects my face from pollution and other harmful chemicals in the air.

Finally, I apply my Shield Face Serum. Essentially, it locks in all of the other benefits from the other two products. Right away on the application, my skin gets a slightly reddish hue. This is from the organic astaxanthin which is extremely beneficial for allowing your skin to uptake vitamin C. Don’t worry though, the reddish hue will be absorbed and your skin will be left feeling radiant and refreshed.
