So I blinked, and it is all of a sudden it was February! I’ve been meaning to get my Monthly Matcha Date out like every month since, well, December? I thought about sitting down to write this to all of you & to be honest – I forgot. In all honesty, having our Monthly Matcha date is one of the things I look forward to every single month. There is nothing I love more than connecting with all of you. But I know you know how it goes, holidays, more holidays, life & all of the transitions. I feel like almost everything has happened and nothing at the same time. What about you? How were your holidays? How has your New Year been?
One big change is that the Monthly Matcha Date will now officially live on the blog, and I am feeling really good & excited about that! It allows me to share and connect with you and allow you to see what’s been going on in My Tiny Laguna Kitchen. You can still reach out to me privately if you want to share something or you can leave a comment below to join the discussion!
January, in all honesty, felt like it was 5 months long. I’ve had a lot of freelance work coming in, which is absolutely amazing, but it has taken a lot of time to get adjusted to how this new life is going to look. We’ve also been adding a lot of new features and processes to the blog to make it easier for you to find and use the recipes. For example, we are going to have a new recipe card, and working on making it easier for you to Pin & share recipes with others. I hope you LOVE it as much as we do!
Balancing photography, design clients & blogging has been the story of my month. If you have been following along for a while then you know that I’ve been in a major transition this past year. It all started with very complicated shoulder surgery, which also brought up a lot of real-life feels. I’ve been feeling the itch to integrate my real life outside of my creations, into the blog without really knowing how. Do you know what I decided? It’s that I am just going to show up, right here, right now and the rest will figure itself out.
Strength in the mundane.
Now that we have gotten the small talk out of the way, let’s dive a little bit deeper, shall we? I’ve been working on strength in all aspects of my life, such as physical strength, emotional strength, mental strength, & spiritual strength. With my physical therapy, this has been a huge part of my journey for over a year now & there have been so many lessons in the healing process. For example, it has really taught me how strong I really am & how strong I am capable of being.
It has also reintroduced me to strength training, and how much that makes a difference in my overall daily mental strength. Pushing myself out of where I am comfortable & sometimes even painful. I have been able to pass boundaries that I never knew I built for myself, in life, career, & physically… I have also learned so much about pain, how and why we deal with pain, mentally and physically, and that there is medicine behind the pain. We just have to be able to sit with it long enough to understand what it is trying to tell us. What is your relationship to strength & pain?
Being a lunar Aquarius (meaning my Moon sign is in Aquarius), I am always wanting to learn and keep growing. In the summer I was able to do a mentorship with Renee from Will Frolic For Food, who I really look up to. I feel like working with her really helped me to expand & grow. She also resonates with being an HSP/Empath & this has made a world of difference in choosing to work with her. I’m hoping to sign back on with her someday again soon.
Until then I started to take an online course called Creative Business School. It’s where I’ve been learning how to put the new blog processes into place, and build more structure into my everyday routine. Being a blogger, and creative it’s hard to know what area of my life & business I should focus my energy on any given day. So far I’m still learning, but excited for a routine & the possibilities it could bring.
Garden days ahead
I can’t believe I almost left out one of the most exciting updates! I got a garden plot in our local community garden! I literally am over the moon about this. We live in a small 400 square foot apartment, we have an urban garden bed but it doesn’t get enough sun. Despite us knowing we aren’t in our forever home, we decided to just enjoy the moment & get a garden plot anyways to help us in the present and feel more connected to nature.
I remember growing up with my Grandma in the Midwest & we would garden together. Actually I’m pretty sure I just dug up worms while she gardened but it was still a time I cherished. In the new garden, however, I plan on actually growing our own vegetables, herbs, medicinal & edible flowers to use for the blog.
Things I’ve been loving these days
- At home Gua Sha facials: Thank goodness for YouTube & Gua Sha, otherwise, I would have no idea where to start. Doing this routine at night really calmed me & made my skin feel so hydrated.
- Infrared Saunas: We have been having Santa Ana Winds in Southern California, and it really messes with my nervous system. Queue in infrared saunas. They ground me and bring me back to life. I use Classpass so if you are in the SoCal area or another major city, it’s a huge help for finding movement classes in the area and it’s the best for finding new saunas.
- Breakfast & Podcasts: I’ve started re-introducing breakfast into my life. Eating breakfast is actually really hard for me to do, because I’m never ever hungry in the morning, so I just wrote it off and declared that I was “intermediate fasting”. Until my Naturopath & a nutritionist recommended that for hormone balancing it is quite essential for women to eat breakfast right away in the morning. So instead of having a “power” morning (aka waking up to do 2 workouts without anything to eat), I’ve been enjoying a smoothie with my Seed Cycling mix. I’ll add-in, plant-based milk, blueberries, protein powder & a couple of scoops of the seed mix! Oh, I also listened to this Expanded Podcast featuring Alisa Vitta all about hormone balancing & it rocked my world. If you are into hormone balancing I highly recommend listening to it!
